Priority Electric LLC — Powering what matters

Puyallup electrical work, both permit lanes handled

A kitchen remodel that finally needs more circuits, a charger for the driveway, an outlet that quit over the weekend: whatever brings you here, you probably have two questions. Who does the work, and who signs off on it. In Puyallup the sign-off question has a cleaner answer than most cities give, and knowing it early keeps a small project from turning into a paperwork chase.

Priority Electric does the electrical work and keeps the approvals pointed at the right office as part of the job. The simplest way to start is Request an Estimate; if you would rather talk it through first, call (206) 718-3047 and describe what you are planning.

Permits in Puyallup: two lanes, clearly marked

Puyallup is unusually direct about the boundary: the City says the Department of Labor & Industries issues all electrical permits. City permits run separately through CityView, and the City publishes its own inspection-scheduling information. So a remodel, addition, or new space can have two related tracks, and one approval never answers for the other.

That does not mean every job needs both. A straightforward electrical change may only ever touch the L&I lane, while a project with city-reviewed construction picks up a CityView application too. Before committing to a sequence, sort the work into plain categories: the electrical change you want, any building, site, plumbing, or mechanical work riding along with it, what has already been submitted, and what is still undecided. Nobody can decide approvals for your address from a website, but that list gives the project a working order.

Houses, condos and apartments ask different questions

By OFM's 2026 estimate Puyallup has 18,680 housing units, split almost down the middle: 59% one-unit homes and 41% in buildings of two or more units. That split is exactly why we ask about the building before the wiring. A charger in a detached garage is mostly an electrical question; the same charger at a condo comes with approvals and access constraints a detached home never sees. The figures do not prove a building's age, its wiring, a utility provider, or a need for an upgrade, so we do not treat them as a diagnosis.

If you own the home, you might be weighing a repair, new lighting, a future charger, a panel question, or a remodel. If you manage a building, you might be coordinating access, drawings, approvals, and timing across more than one unit. Either way the work lines up with the same services: electrical repair, lighting, EV chargers, and remodel electrical.

Septic notes, impact fees and other city homework

Two things in Puyallup's own parcel research surprise people. The City says that research can include septic-system information and natural-environment information, and it notes that school, park, and traffic impact fees may be assessed on certain projects case by case. Neither is an electrical fee or an electrical permit rule, and neither says anything about your property in particular.

They are simply good reasons to mention the whole project when we talk, not just the wiring. An estimate can account for what is known, flag the open questions, and avoid guessing at site conditions. The appropriate City and L&I authorities remain the ones who confirm what a given address actually requires.

The scope arrives in writing

What we discuss becomes a written scope with its own number. If the work develops beyond what that scope describes, our practice is to call and review the change with you first. For a Puyallup project, the useful details are the property type, what you want the electrical system to do, any CityView or other city process already started, plans if they exist, and the timing you know about. That is especially helpful when a simple electrical improvement starts growing into a broader construction question, because it separates what can happen now from what depends on review, access, or design decisions.

Some problems should skip this page

For active smoke, sparks, a burning smell, an electrical shock, or immediate fire danger, leave the source alone and call 911. Do not keep resetting the breaker, operate the affected device, or wait for a web request to be reviewed. If the issue is a wider service outage, contact the electric utility.

Tell us about the project, we will sort the lanes

You do not need the permit map memorized before you reach out; keeping it straight is part of what you are hiring. Describe the work, the property, and any city-side steps already in motion through Request an Estimate, or call (206) 718-3047.

FAQs

Common questions

Puyallup says L&I issues all electrical permits. Do I still need a city permit?

Possibly, depending on the full project. The City identifies an L&I electrical path and also operates CityView for city permits. Confirm requirements for the actual scope.

Are Puyallup impact fees part of an electrical quote?

No. The City says certain impact fees may be assessed case by case. They are not electrical pricing.

Why should I mention septic or natural-environment research for electrical work?

Those City parcel-research topics can affect the broader project sequence. They do not establish an electrical requirement for your property.

Can an apartment or condo request use the same checklist as a detached home?

Begin with the building type and approval/access constraints. Those facts can affect planning even when the desired electrical change sounds similar.

What is the first step after a visible electrical spark?

Do not touch or retest the equipment. Call 911 if there is immediate fire or shock danger.

Denis at Priority Electric LLC delivered an outstanding experience from start to finish. We hired him to completely replace all the lighting in our kitchen, including updating the old fixtures and replacing all the recessed can lighting in the ceiling. What truly set Denis apart was his customer-focused approach. Before committing to the full ceiling job, he offered to install a complimentary can light as a test run. This allowed us to see the final look and brightness, which was incredibly helpful in making our final decision. The quality of the work was impeccable and fully met our expectations, and we found his pricing to be very fair for the scope of the project.
