Priority Electric LLC — Powering what matters

Wiring the next phase of your Covington remodel

Your remodel calendar probably looks settled: framing, drywall, paint, done by a date you have already promised someone. Then the project picks up a charger for the driveway or a circuit for a heat pump, and the electrical side suddenly has a schedule of its own. In Covington that schedule runs through two different offices, and knowing which is which keeps the drywall date honest.

We do the wiring and steer each sign-off to the office that owns it, so you do not have to learn the system to use it. Request an Estimate is the fastest way to get the electrical scope on paper, or call (206) 718-3047 with your equipment list handy and we will start there.

The city portal and the state permit are different doors

Covington runs building, mechanical, and plumbing permit activity through Citizens Connect, which also handles document uploads, inspection scheduling, and permit lookup. Electrical is different: Covington is not among the cities on Washington L&I's municipal-jurisdiction list that issue their own electrical permits and inspections, so the electrical permit runs through L&I. A Citizens Connect appointment never proves the electrical permit or inspection is covered, and the reverse is just as true.

The split is easy to manage once you can see it. Keep one note for the city building milestones and one for the electrical milestones, and never let a date on one stand in for approval on the other. Before any work begins, the scope, job address, and authority get checked, and that check is ours to make, not yours.

Using the inspection calendar to your advantage

The City says building-inspection requests received by 3 p.m. on a business day are taken for the following business day, subject to staffing. It also publishes building inspection hours of 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday, with Friday closure, again subject to staffing. If your remodel involves a city building permit, those windows are worth planning around; they are city building facts, not an electrical inspection promise, so we keep the L&I side on its own timeline.

Share the intended inspection point with whoever is coordinating the construction, then leave the electrical question with us. The mistake worth avoiding is assuming an inspection scheduled for one part of the job approves another part. Two columns in a project note prevent it.

Mostly houses, which shapes the questions we ask

OFM's 2026 housing estimate lists 7,786 Covington housing units, including 6,530 one-unit homes, which means most of the city lives in detached houses. Those figures say nothing about your home's capacity, wiring condition, panel rating, or utility service, so we never treat them as a diagnosis. What they do mean is that a Covington project usually comes down to one panel, one garage, and the circuits already serving the house.

For an EV charger, the useful questions are where the vehicle will charge, whether the route to the panel is known, and whether a garage, driveway, or detached area changes that route. For a heat pump, it is the equipment location, the other loads already on the panel, and whether the circuit rides along with a larger remodel. Not every home needs the same panel work, which is why we scope before we assume.

How to hand us the project

Plain language beats jargon here. “One new circuit for equipment in the garage, with drywall work planned later” tells us more than a vague request for an upgrade. List the changes in the order they will hit the project: finishing the garage, choosing the charger, changing heating equipment, closing walls on different dates. Include photos only if you can take them safely, and never remove a panel cover to get one.

Priority Electric is a Bonney Lake-based service-area electrician serving Pierce, King and Snohomish Counties, not a walk-in office in Covington. We discuss the work, provide a written scope and number, and call before adding anything outside that scope.

When to call 911 instead

If an outlet, panel, or piece of equipment is hot, smoking, sparking, or presenting an immediate danger, move people away from the hazard and call 911. A suspected utility outage belongs with the serving utility. Do not keep testing a potentially dangerous condition while deciding on a project plan.

Start with the equipment list

Sorting the permits is our job, not your homework. Send the equipment, the part of the home involved, any remodel or construction phase, and any city permit information you already have through Request an Estimate, or call (206) 718-3047.

FAQs

Common questions

Does Covington issue the electrical permit for a home project?

Covington is not listed by Washington L&I as a city that issues electrical permits and inspections within its city limits. The right electrical path should be confirmed for the job address and scope rather than inferred from a City building permit or portal activity.

What does the 3 p.m. Covington cutoff apply to?

The City says building-inspection requests are taken until 3 p.m. each business day for the following business day, subject to staffing. It is a City building-inspection planning fact, not a promise about L&I electrical inspections or project completion.

Can Citizens Connect help with a remodel that includes electrical work?

Citizens Connect is the City’s portal for listed building, mechanical, and plumbing activity, permit lookup, document upload, and inspection scheduling. Keep that City process distinct from the electrical permit and inspection question.

What should I include for an EV charger discussion?

Share the charger model if known, charging location, panel location, parking arrangement, and whether the garage or service area is being remodeled. Those details help define the work under consideration without presuming a capacity solution.

Is every Covington house ready for a heat-pump circuit?

No citywide housing statistic can answer that for a particular house. The equipment requirements, existing loads, panel, route, and project scope need to be considered together.

Denis at Priority Electric LLC delivered an outstanding experience from start to finish. We hired him to completely replace all the lighting in our kitchen, including updating the old fixtures and replacing all the recessed can lighting in the ceiling. What truly set Denis apart was his customer-focused approach. Before committing to the full ceiling job, he offered to install a complimentary can light as a test run. This allowed us to see the final look and brightness, which was incredibly helpful in making our final decision. The quality of the work was impeccable and fully met our expectations, and we found his pricing to be very fair for the scope of the project.
