Priority Electric LLC — Powering what matters

Carnation wiring for houses, garages, and accessory structures

What starts as one new circuit in the house has a way of ending somewhere else: a garage that needs light, an accessory structure picking up equipment, a run across the yard you had not planned on. Around Carnation that kind of drift is normal, and the wiring questions travel with it. Naming where the project actually ends up is the first step to scoping it honestly.

When you are ready, put home, garage, or accessory structure in the description and send it through Request an Estimate, or call (206) 718-3047 and describe the property.

The City portal and the electrical permit are different doors

The local process begins with a branch. The City directs permit applications to its Online Permit Center, while electrical permits and inspections run through Washington L&I, because Carnation is not on L&I's municipal electrical-jurisdiction list. Knowing which part of the project belongs at which door keeps every permit question from being treated as one form.

The portal is valuable as the City's application entry point, but it does not replace the electrical permit path. L&I states that jobs outside listed city electrical jurisdictions and Tacoma Power service are permitted through L&I, and that a permit must be purchased before electrical work starts. None of that should delay the estimate conversation. It is a reason to bring the scope details forward so both sides can be prepared together.

A plain record prevents most handoff mistakes. Note whether the City application concerns the structure or the site, what electrical work is proposed, whether the L&I permit question has been confirmed, and which document supports each answer. That is not bureaucracy for its own sake; it lets everyone see the next question before the project moves.

Give the capacity question a location

A new-circuit request is more useful with a location and purpose attached. A garage circuit, a detached-space project, and an indoor remodel put different facts in play: equipment requirements, distance from the panel, route options, existing documentation, and whatever else is happening on site. For a garage or accessory structure, name the intended use without assuming the design. Say whether the space is changing use, gaining lighting, supporting equipment, or simply being planned for future needs, since each answer surfaces different circuit, routing, capacity, and permit questions.

If the project depends on another construction decision, say so early. A structure may still need framing, a layout may need approval, or equipment selections may be open. Naming the dependency does not determine the permit result; it puts the electrical questions in the right order for the whole project team. A one-line note, waiting on framing or shed layout not final, is plenty.

A small city where the structure type still matters

Carnation grew from 814 housing units in 2020 to 981 in 2026, an increase of 20.5%, and the estimate records 46 mobile-home or special units, per the state's OFM housing estimates. Those are planning facts, not proof of what your property needs. They are why we ask early whether the work is inside the home, in a garage, at an accessory structure, or connected to a manufactured-home setting, because the answer can change both the documentation and the authority check.

For a home remodel, share which rooms are changing, selected appliances or fixtures, plans, and the panel information. For a garage or accessory structure, add the structure's use, location, any available layout, proposed equipment, and the timing relative to other work. For a manufactured-home question, say so from the start rather than borrowing a site-built assumption. Photos of the panel and of the destination space round out the picture.

Start with what you know, including the equipment specification if there is one. Once the work is understood we put the scope in writing with its own number, and if a discovered condition changes the agreed work, we communicate before anything is added to it. An honest partial answer now beats a confident guess that has to be walked back mid-project.

A smell of burning insulation, a visible spark, smoke, a shock, or other immediate danger is a 911 matter. Do not keep testing a circuit or use an online form as an urgent response channel. If service is out over a broader area, report the outage to the utility.

Tell us where the project ends up

House, garage, or something in between, the scope conversation starts the same way. Send the details through Request an Estimate, or call (206) 718-3047 and we will sort the City questions from the electrical ones as the project takes shape.

FAQs

Common questions

Does Carnation’s Online Permit Center issue the electrical permit?

What should I provide for a garage electrical project?

Share the address, intended use, layout if available, panel photos, proposed equipment, location, and any City portal status.

Can an accessory-structure project be planned before all equipment is chosen?

Yes. Identify what is decided, what is still being compared, and how the space is expected to be used. That helps frame the scope without guessing.

What authority handles Carnation electrical inspections?

Denis at Priority Electric LLC delivered an outstanding experience from start to finish. We hired him to completely replace all the lighting in our kitchen, including updating the old fixtures and replacing all the recessed can lighting in the ceiling. What truly set Denis apart was his customer-focused approach. Before committing to the full ceiling job, he offered to install a complimentary can light as a test run. This allowed us to see the final look and brightness, which was incredibly helpful in making our final decision. The quality of the work was impeccable and fully met our expectations, and we found his pricing to be very fair for the scope of the project.
