Priority Electric LLC — Powering what matters

What kind of Ruston remodel is it? The Town actually asks.

Remodel is a word that hides more than it says, and Ruston's own permit center refuses to accept it at face value. The Town lists distinct paths for Residential Remodel/Addition, Residential Remodel (Interior Only), re-roofing, siding and window work, and plumbing and mechanical work, all submitted through MyGov. So before you ask what the electrical part costs, answer the Town's implicit question: what kind of building change is this? An interior kitchen reshuffle and an addition that changes the exterior are different projects with different paperwork.

Priority Electric plans the electrical side around whichever answer is true. Request an Estimate with the project type and plans, or call (206) 718-3047 and describe what is changing.

Guidance: the Town's own words about when permits apply

Ruston says a permit may be required when a homeowner plans to alter, remodel, repair, or enlarge a home; convert or replace a mechanical or plumbing system; or erect new residential structures. Those are permit-center statements, not a blanket verdict on every electrical task, and the current requirements should be confirmed with the Town for the real project. The electrical authority is a separate check with a genuinely open answer: Ruston appears on neither L&I's municipal city list nor Tacoma Power's named-city list, so the issuer is verified at the service address rather than guessed from the town name or a Tacoma-adjacent habit.

The remodel conversation, held properly

For an owner: what is changing inside the home, what equipment arrives, will walls be open, do plans exist? For a remodeler or designer: fixture locations, appliance loads, panel questions, and the decisions that must land before finishes. For the commercial strip along the Town's western boundary, state the use and operating constraints instead of borrowing residential assumptions. Each version routes through remodel electrical, with panel work and lighting joining as the scope firms up.

A small town of houses, taken one at a time

OFM counts 529 Ruston housing units in 2026, 81% of them one-unit homes. Mostly detached, mostly modest in count, and none of it evidence about the age, capacity, or condition of your particular wiring; the walls that are about to open will tell us more than any statistic, which is exactly why a remodel is the best moment to ask electrical questions you have been postponing.

Dependencies, named instead of hidden

A Ruston remodel can hold four separate confirmations: the Town's project category, the utility territory, the electrical permit route, and the jobsite conditions. Our estimate names those dependencies rather than burying them under a generic remodel label: the work we discuss becomes a written scope with its own number, and if conditions change the plan after work begins, you hear from us before anything is added.

When classification stops mattering

A hot electrical smell, sparks, smoke, fire, a shock, or exposed energized equipment ends the research phase: get clear and call 911. For a concerning-but-stable condition, write down what stopped working, which rooms it affects, when it began, and whether the remodel preceded it, all observed from a safe distance with the equipment left alone.

Name the category, send the plans

Interior-only or addition, drawings or napkin sketch: Request an Estimate or call (206) 718-3047, and the Town path and the electrical path get checked separately, the way they should be. The category question takes one sentence to answer and saves weeks of assuming.

FAQs

Common questions

Does Ruston have a separate interior-only remodel permit type?

Yes. Ruston's permit center lists Residential Remodel (Interior Only) separately from Residential Remodel/Addition (Interior & Exterior). Confirm the category and current requirements with the Town.

Where are Ruston City permits submitted?

Ruston says its permits can be submitted through MyGov. That is the City's permit entry point; electrical authority still needs to be verified for the address and scope.

Who issues an electrical permit for my Ruston property?

Do not assume from the town name. Ruston is not listed in L&I's municipal city jurisdiction list or Tacoma Power's named-city list. Verify the electrical authority for the specific service address.

What information helps classify a remodel?

Explain whether the change is interior only, affects the exterior, adds space, replaces equipment, or includes a separate structure. Add plans, address, and the electrical decisions being considered.

Denis at Priority Electric LLC delivered an outstanding experience from start to finish. We hired him to completely replace all the lighting in our kitchen, including updating the old fixtures and replacing all the recessed can lighting in the ceiling. What truly set Denis apart was his customer-focused approach. Before committing to the full ceiling job, he offered to install a complimentary can light as a test run. This allowed us to see the final look and brightness, which was incredibly helpful in making our final decision. The quality of the work was impeccable and fully met our expectations, and we found his pricing to be very fair for the scope of the project.
