Priority Electric LLC — Powering what matters

One Gig Harbor project, three different desks

One Gig Harbor project can put three different names in your paperwork. The utility has a say about the service, the City has a say about structures, and the electrical permit answers to its own authority. Keeping those three straight is most of what makes a remodel, an outbuilding, or an equipment change go smoothly, and it is part of what you hire us for.

You do not need the roles mapped before reaching out. Priority Electric serves Gig Harbor as a Pierce County service-area electrician; send the service address and the equipment you are considering through Request an Estimate, or call (206) 718-3047 and we will walk the roles first.

The three roles, named

Here is who holds which question:

  • Utility: Peninsula Light Company says its coverage includes Gig Harbor, the Key Peninsulas, and Fox Island.
  • Building: Gig Harbor says regulated buildings and structures require a separate permit before they are built or altered, subject to its published rules and exemptions.
  • Electrical: Gig Harbor is not on L&I’s list of municipal electrical jurisdictions, so the electrical authority should be verified at the service address.

That map promises no meter change, interconnection result, or permit outcome. What it does is keep three different questions from being compressed into one, whether you are weighing new equipment, an outbuilding, a remodel, or an earthquake-retrofit-related change.

Why the City’s building permit is its own lane

Gig Harbor’s building-permit guidance says a regulated building or structure may not be built or altered without a separate permit for each building or structure. The City also publishes resources including a new single-family submittal packet, residential building-permit and stormwater guidance, mobile-manufactured-home material, earthquake retrofit information, and electronic plan-submittal documents.

The planning point for you: an outbuilding, a home alteration, or a retrofit can carry building-process questions alongside its electrical questions. A building permit does not supply the electrical answer, and an electrical question does not resolve the City’s building process. Describe the project as it is, including the planned structure or alteration, the equipment, the service address, and any documents already started.

On the electrical side, Washington L&I’s jurisdiction page is the authority source for the municipal list, and Gig Harbor is not on it. Electrical permitting therefore gets confirmed by address rather than assumed from an area-wide generalization, which matters most before anyone talks through a utility, meter, or new-service sequence.

Houses lead the mix, attached homes are close behind

The state’s 2026 estimate reports 6,186 Gig Harbor housing units, up from 5,642 in 2020, with 62% one-unit housing and 35% two-or-more-unit housing. Those numbers do not describe your property, its waterfront condition, terrain, wiring, or access. They are simply why detached-home and attached-housing owners both get a thoughtful intake here.

For a detached home, tell us whether the goal concerns existing equipment, a remodel, an outbuilding, or capacity planning. In an attached setting, include the unit or common-area location and any property-management coordination. If you are a remodeler or designer, name the project phase and the electrical decisions that should be settled before finishes, not a presumed answer.

The route depends on the work: additions, ADUs, shops, and garages for a changing property layout, panel upgrades and replacements for a capacity conversation, or remodel electrical for planned interior changes.

Meter and service questions run on facts

A request involving equipment near a service, a meter, a generator, or a new electrical load needs facts, not assurances. Share the proposed equipment, its available documentation, the current project stage, and the address. Peninsula Light’s published coverage gives relevant service-area context, but it does not establish every property’s service details or approve a project.

We talk through the electrical scope and flag the questions that belong with the applicable authority. The job goes into a written scope with a number, and we contact you before added work is brought into it. None of that promises utility scheduling, a permit decision, or a fixed price.

If damaged equipment is sparking, smoking, or presents immediate shock risk, call 911. Do not approach or attempt to repair utility-side equipment. For an outage, use the utility serving the property.

Turn the role map into your next step

A useful request names the street address, whether the project is a building change or an electrical-only question, the planned equipment, the building type, and any City submittal status. If a utility question is in the mix, label it as something to verify rather than an assumption, and the project starts clean.

For broader permit context, read permits and inspections. Nearby service-area pages: Key Peninsula, Lakewood, Tacoma, and Steilacoom.

Request an Estimate with the service address and planned equipment so the utility and permit roles get checked, or call (206) 718-3047.

FAQs

Common questions

Does Peninsula Light serve Gig Harbor?

Peninsula Light says its coverage spans Gig Harbor, the Key Peninsulas, and Fox Island. Confirm service details for the property rather than treating an area description as an account-level answer.

Who issues electrical permits in Gig Harbor?

Gig Harbor is not on L&I’s municipal electrical-jurisdiction list. Confirm electrical permit authority at the project address before beginning work.

Do I need a separate building permit for an outbuilding or alteration?

Gig Harbor says regulated buildings and structures require a separate permit before they are built or altered, subject to its current rules and exemptions. Confirm the project’s exact requirements with the City.

What helps with a meter or service-change conversation?

Provide the address, planned equipment, project goal, building type, and any City or utility documents already available.

Can an earthquake retrofit affect electrical planning?

It can create coordination questions when electrical equipment or spaces are part of the project. Start with the specific retrofit and electrical scope rather than assuming a standard solution.

Denis at Priority Electric LLC delivered an outstanding experience from start to finish. We hired him to completely replace all the lighting in our kitchen, including updating the old fixtures and replacing all the recessed can lighting in the ceiling. What truly set Denis apart was his customer-focused approach. Before committing to the full ceiling job, he offered to install a complimentary can light as a test run. This allowed us to see the final look and brightness, which was incredibly helpful in making our final decision. The quality of the work was impeccable and fully met our expectations, and we found his pricing to be very fair for the scope of the project.
