Priority Electric LLC — Powering what matters
Wiring repairs and rewiring

Old wiring, made safe

The inspection report flagged the wiring, or the house has been telling you itself: warm plates, tripping breakers, that faint hot-plastic smell.

Wiring problems arrive two ways. Suddenly: a nail through a cable during a project, a rodent-chewed run in the crawl space, a splice that finally let go. Or slowly: a house from the 1960s whose circuits have spent decades carrying loads nobody imagined at the time, showing it in nuisance trips and outlets that no longer grip a plug.

Either way, the copper in your walls is the part of the electrical system you cannot see, which is exactly why guesses are not good enough. We test, we open what needs opening, and we tell you what is actually there before talking about what to do.

Repair, or rewire

A damaged section of an otherwise healthy circuit gets repaired: the bad run replaced, junctions made in accessible boxes, everything closed up properly. A repair is honest when the surrounding wiring can be trusted.

Rewiring is for when it cannot: insulation gone brittle, ungrounded two-wire circuits everywhere, or splice-on-splice history from decades of shortcuts. That is a planned project, done room by room or whole-house, with a written scope that says which walls open, in what order, and for how much. You will not get a vague number for work this consequential.

What we look for in an older house

  • Ungrounded circuits feeding three-prong outlets, which give appliances a ground pin connected to nothing.
  • Buried junction boxes and amateur splices from past remodels.
  • Cable insulation that cracks when flexed, a sign the whole run is at end of life.
  • Circuits extended far past their original design, one outlet at a time.

Living in the house while it happens

A rewire does not have to mean moving out. We sequence circuits so bedrooms and the kitchen keep power at night, cut drywall in disciplined openings rather than trenches, and leave each area workable at the end of the day. Customers' reviews keep coming back to tidy work and clear explanations, and on a multi-day job those habits are exactly what keep the house livable in between.

Wiring work of this kind is permitted and inspected, and the permit is in our scope from the first number. If you are weighing a purchase, the older home electrical guide lists the questions worth asking before you sign anything.

Judging a rewiring proposal

Questions that separate evidence from fear

  • Which circuits did you actually test, and what is the verdict on each one?
  • Which walls will open, who patches and paints them, and is that written down?
  • How does the house stay livable while the work runs?
  • Are the permit and both inspections already inside the price?

Red flags on paper and in the plaster

A whole-house pitch delivered without per-circuit findings is a scare, not a diagnosis; so is a rewire number that never mentions drywall. From where you stand, the house gives its own testimony: outlets that no longer grip a plug, cover plates warm to a passing touch, a faint hot smell that comes and goes, trips scattered across different circuits. Report those observations to whoever you interview, and do not go hunting behind them.

Caring for wiring you cannot see

Skip the cheater adapters that fake a ground pin, spread big portable loads like space heaters across rooms instead of stacking them on one circuit, and keep a dated, room-by-room note of anything odd. If a smell ever sharpens, the burning smell page says what to do and in what order. Before you commission a decision this size, read how to prepare for the estimate visit and how to compare what the bids leave out.

Tell us the age of the house and what it has been doing through Request an Estimate, or call (206) 718-3047. If something smells hot right now, skip the form and use the phone.

FAQs

Common questions

How do I know if my house needs rewiring?

One symptom rarely decides it; a pattern does. Frequent trips across different circuits, outlets that spark or will not grip, a persistent warm smell, and an inspection report full of wiring notes together point that way. An assessment gives you a verdict per circuit, not a scare story.

Can you ground my two-prong outlets?

There are legitimate paths: running a grounding conductor, rewiring the circuit, or GFCI protection with the required labelling where code allows it. Which applies depends on the wiring behind the wall, and we will tell you which your house supports rather than defaulting to the biggest job.

Will you have to open many walls?

Fewer than people fear. Attics, crawl spaces, and basements carry most new cable, and where drywall must open we cut planned, patchable openings and say so in the scope beforehand. Drywall finish and paint are listed as included or excluded in writing, never assumed.

What about a burning smell with nothing visibly wrong?

Treat it seriously. Turn off the suspect circuit and read burning electrical smell for how to narrow the source safely. A smell with no found source is a reason to call, not to wait for smoke.

Denis at Priority Electric LLC delivered an outstanding experience from start to finish. We hired him to completely replace all the lighting in our kitchen, including updating the old fixtures and replacing all the recessed can lighting in the ceiling. What truly set Denis apart was his customer-focused approach. Before committing to the full ceiling job, he offered to install a complimentary can light as a test run. This allowed us to see the final look and brightness, which was incredibly helpful in making our final decision. The quality of the work was impeccable and fully met our expectations, and we found his pricing to be very fair for the scope of the project.
